Magic Breaks

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) By: Ilona Andrews

 Plot:

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate. As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

Review:

If I could I would have Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs baby. I love them so much! My husband would probably have issues with that, but how else can I express just how much I love them? I’ve read some pretty awful books, but knowing that Andrews and Briggs are out there writing makes it bearable.

I wouldn’t call Magic Breaks the climactic conclusion, but we did finally see Roland, which was pretty climactic. We finally got to see this huge evil that Kate has been preparing her whole life to kill. There was a pretty awesome fight with just her. Not as much Curran time, but he was there when he needed to be.

The ending was a complete surprise and I’m so glad that the next book comes out this year. I also enjoyed the short story at the end, it was a nice way to bring me back down to earth. It was short and cute and expanded a character that didn’t get much time in the book.

I’m excited to see what happens next, I’m happy with the way the book went, and I’m overjoyed that Andrews writes faster than some other authors I love.

Raising Innocence

Raising Innocence (Rylee Adamson #3) By: Shannon Mayer

Plot:

The FBI wants me on their team. Bad enough that they are dangling bait they KNOW I can’t resist. The catch? It’s on the other side of the ocean. And if I want what they’re offering, I have to help them with a salvage gone terribly, terribly wrong. But this time, I have no back up. I have no Plan B. And I have no O’Shea.

Review:

Well I didn’t get much of O’Shea, he was in the book but more of a set up for upcoming issues. What I did get was the addition of a teenage sidekick, which I love, and finally some answers about Milly.

You’ve got to feel for Rylee. So much happened in this book and she was just great. I still really want to know what happens next with her and O’Shea, but it looks like there are going to be a lot of issues there.

There are several similarities between the Rylee Adamson series and the Kate Daniels series, but I honestly don’t care. Both are great series and I just want MORE!!!

Priceless

Priceless (Rylee Adamson #1) By: Shannon Mayer

Plot:

“My name is Rylee and I am a Tracker.” When children go missing, and the Humans have no leads, I’m the one they call. I am their last hope in bringing home the lost ones. I salvage what they cannot. I’m on the FBI’s wanted list. I have a werewolf for a pet, a Witch of a best friend, and have no need for anyone else in my life. But when a salvage starts to spin out of control, help comes from a most unexpected direction. One that is dangerously dark, brooding, and doesn’t know a thing about the supernatural. One whose kisses set me on fire.

Review:

Wow! This book is so great and it blindsided me. I’m always looking for something to tide me over until the next Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs book comes out, but no matter how many recommendations I get nothing ever measures up. This was as close as I’ve gotten and I’m so freakin happy!

Rylee reminds me of Kate Daniels, she’s not as big a badass, but she’s got that same moral compass and feel to her. O’Shea is definitely not the beast lord but he’s the perfect match for Rylee and I love him already.

Enjoyed all the strays that were picked up along the way and I’m looking forward to learning more about the world.

When I bought this it was $.99 and it is worth so much more than that. As soon as I finished I bought the second one and I am thrilled to see that I have so many books ahead of me to read.
