Ride Along (2014)

ride-along04

Director:

Tim Story

Starring:

Ice Cube

Kevin Hart

Bruce McGill

Tika Sumpter

Lawrence Fishburne

Plot:

Security guard Ben must prove himself to his girlfriend’s brother, top cop James. He rides along James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta.

Review:

Some shit went down in Atlanta. Who knew Serbians like to smuggle arms though there?

Anyway, Kevin Hart was funny, Ice Cube was a menacing older brother, and Bruce McGill was an angry but understanding police chief. Overall it was fairly funny, some moments more than others.

I did think the short jokes were overdone, we get it he’s short can we move on?

Story was alright, not overly believable but who cares?

Great explosion.

Favorite Line:

Ice Cube:”Give me your belt.”

Kevin Hart: “I got shot and you’re going to whip me?”

47 Ronin (2013)

47 Ronin

Director:

Carl Rinsch

Starring:

Keanu Reeves

Hiroyuki Sanada

Ko Shibasaki

Plot:

A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun.

Review:

Wow, I’m not sure if I’ve ever watched such a boring movie. You’d think a movie about samurai out for revenge would be awesome, but nope. This movie could barely hold my attention and most of the time it didn’t.

First off it’s a movie about Japanese samurai and yet they all speak English. This movie should have been subtitled.

Second, it was just so damn boring. Oh my god, even the action scenes were dull.

All and all I would only recommend this movie if counting sheep isn’t getting you to sleep.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Director:

Bryan Singer

Starring:

Patrick Stewart

Hugh Jackman

Ian McKellen

James McAvoy

Plot:

The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Review:

I knew nothing about the Days of Future Past story line from the comics or the TV show so I went in with no expectations. My husband use to watch the TV show so was really hoping for more Bishop. Oh well.

There were a couple new X-Men in the future, and in the case of Bishop there was no explanation of his powers. Quicksilver was probably the best part of the movie. Loved the scene with him in the kitchen, the music reminded me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The movie ended up being a reset switch. Everything that has happened in the movies up until now we don’t even know if it happened. Everyone that died is back, the world is all hunky dory.

I call bullshit. There is no way humans would be ok with mutants after one tries to kill the president, brings a whole stadium to the white house, and is only stopped when another mutant stops him. They don’t even get to imprison the mutant that tried to kill the president because another powerful mutant lets him go.

Even with the unlikely ending I liked the movie. Didn’t love it, don’t need to own it, but I liked it.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012)

twilight

Director:

Bill Condon

Starring:

Kristen Stewart

Robert Pattinson

Taylor Lautner

Plot:

After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.

Review:

I thought the wolf scene in Part 1 was bad, but holy shit the running/hunting scene was so stupid looking.

Maybe I should preface this review by saying I am not a Twilight fan. I’ve read the books and watched all the movies so at least I did that before I judged them. I also went into each with an open mind.

Back to the movie, oh my god that baby looked horrible.

At least I got Jacob chest this time. I can’t remember if there was any in the first part, I just remember being disappointed in the amount.

Ugh sparkling.

And now the dad knows about the baby? When did that happen? I mean he kind of guessed but he didn’t know.

I don’t remember a battle scene in the book… Oh wait I see what they did there.

I was leaning toward 2 stars but after that ridiculous ending

Grudge Match (2013)

grudge match

Director:

Peter Segal

Starring:

Sylvester Stallone

Robert De Niro

Kim Basinger

Kevin Hart

Plot:

A pair of aging boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout — 30 years after their last match.

Review:

This movies was… honestly right after I finished watching it I started to forget it. I remember the story and who was in it but the movie was just sort of eh. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. It was just there.

I thought Kevin Hart’s part would be bigger based on the trailers. I hadn’t even realized Kim Basinger was in it until she showed up.

I watched this shortly after watching Rocky, so I got the Rocky references.

It was a solid 3 star movie.
