The Reluctant Goddess

The Reluctant Goddess (The Montgomery Chronicles #2) By: Karen Ranney

Plot:

Life was getting stranger instead of easier. Not only was Marcie Montgomery still craving tacos – and any kind of cheesecake – now she was lusting after her knight in confusing armor. Plus, she knew her dog wasn’t exactly a dog. Witches and explosions, a murderous mother escaped from jail, half-mad members of human-only groups, the evil Niccolo Maddock, and the gynecologist from hell all add up to make Marcie’s life just like the Chinese curse: it is better to live as a rat in a cage of cats than it is to be a vampire anywhere.

Review:

Well a lot happened in this book but not as much as I wanted. There are still so many unanswered questions and I want some answers damnit. Marcie goes to get answers but she always stops short of getting a full explanation. She gets overwhelmed and backs off and I just want to know more.

Marcie got to kick some Maddock butt and the ending left me wanting more. Marcie isn’t my favorite heroine, I wish she’d get on the ball and learn more. She always seems to get caught up in her emotions and I wish she’d be more proactive instead of letting Dan take care of things. Oddly enough she gets annoyed when he does but doesn’t seem to do much about it, except attacking him once.

Looking forward to the next book.

The Fertile Vampire (The Montgomery Chronicles #1) By: Karen Ranney

The Fertile Vampire (The Montgomery Chronicles #1) By: Karen Ranney

Plot:

Okay, so she’d dated a vampire. Maybe she got carried away one night. Becoming a vampire seemed a high price to pay for being foolish. Nor was this whole transformation thing starting off the way it was supposed to for Marcie Montgomery. She was hungry all the time – not for blood, but tacos and french fries and cheeseburgers, oh my. Then there was Niccolo Maddock, the Master Vampire who was acting as her mentor. Just what did he want? Going from being an insurance adjuster to a vampire could confuse the most level headed person and Marcie had always considered herself a pragmatist. Even when she was faced with relatives who weren’t who they’d always been, witches who were out to annihilate her, and the stunning knowledge of her own powers. Add in werewolves, shape shifters, and other Brethren and life in South Texas suddenly became very complicated. When Marcie discovered she alone could transform the vampire race, she was faced with a choice: to embrace who she was or change her destiny. Why should anything be easy?

Review:

I am not the biggest fan of vampire books. I’ve certainly read my share, but I burned out on them quicker than the rest of the world apparently. That being said the title Fertile Vampire caught my eye and after reading the sample I had to read more.

The story was fairly fast paced and I loved the fact that Marcie sought revenge for what was done to her. There were a few slower places while she moped but they were understandable considering all that was going on.

I felt sorry for Marcie and the fact that she didn’t have anyone really in her corner. She was at times annoying, but for the most part I liked her. I was definitely jealous of her ability to eat constantly and not gain weight.

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

It Takes a Witch (Wishcraft Mystery #1) By: Heather Blake

It Takes a Witch (Wishcraft Mystery #1) By: Heather Blake

Plot:

Darcy Merriweather has just discovered she hails from a long line of Wishcrafters-witches with the power to cast spells by making a wish. She’s come to Enchanted Village to learn her trade but finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation…

Review:

Now this is the cozy mystery I was looking for. It was a perfect blend of cozy and supernatural. I enjoyed the interesting way Blake chose to use magic. People are Crafters and have a specialty. She made rules and she stuck with them, though, I vaguely remember Darcy helping someone with a money wish which she shouldn’t have. I could be misremembering though and I don’t feel like trying to find it in the book.

Anyway, enjoyed the characters and the setting. I thought the story was interesting and I wasn’t able to guess who done it. There were plenty of questions asked but Darcy wasn’t constantly thinking someone else was the murderer, she went about her search in a friendly manner and wasn’t nosy and annoying. Really liked her and I thought she was very realistic.

After my long search the fact that I finally found exactly what I was looking for made me happy. I can’t wait to read the next in the series, but I’ve burnt myself out on cozies so it might be a little while.

Tracker (Rylee Adamson #6) By: Shannon Mayer

Tracker (Rylee Adamson #6) By: Shannon Mayer

Plot:

Bringing my allies together as war approaches is my number one concern. But that means I have to play nice with a vampire who is blackmailing me. If I don’t, I’m screwed and my family is dead. But I don’t play nice. And I have a backup plan. Kinda. Throw in some new weapons being developed that work around supernaturals and I have more problems than I can handle on my own. Good thing I have a kick ass team. Even if they are on the other side of the world from me.

Review:

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to read so I decided to pick up where I’d left off with Rylee. I think my enjoyment of the book suffered from my apathy and while I still liked the book I didn’t enjoy it as much as previous installments.

I’d forgotten what happened at the end of book 6 so it took me a couple chapters to catch up. I also thought that the vampire resolution seemed a bit too easy.

**Spoilers**

Faris still hasn’t gotten what I feel he deserves and she was even able to find a way around backing him for vampire leader. Once that was fixed it was like he was no longer a dick. Maybe not, we’ll see.

I’m not a fan of super dark books, however, if the story calls for it by all means. Rylee has this huge big bad coming and needs to gather allies but I feel like this book ignored relationships built in previous books and ended with a previous bad guy becoming good, but not by doing anything really redeeming.

Maybe I’m being unfair, there was plenty of darkness in the book, but most of it was the characters coping with tragic deaths in the previous book and alluding to future tragedy.

I still want to know what’s going to happen and I still plan on reading further, but I think I’m going to wait until I’m in a better mood.

Heartache (Twenty-sided Sorceress #5) By: Annie Bellet

Heartache

Heartache (Twenty-sided Sorceress #5) By: Annie Bellet

Plot:

Gamer and sorceress Jade Crow’s psychotic ex-boyfriend shows up for a final showdown, and nothing in Wylde will ever be the same.

Review:

Omg I can’t believe she ended there! I’m actually a little mad, the other books had closure for their stories while the over arching villain was still going on. Instead of just making the book longer she’s split it into two. I’m a little annoyed by that.

The series is still good and I love Jade. She’s strong but not over powered and she just wants to protect her friends. Again I had moments where I wasn’t quiet sure who was who since its been a while and she does no introductions. Lots of build up with no pay off, though.

I look forward to the next installment but again I’m a little disappointed in the lack of resolution with this one.
