Review:

I wouldn’t call myself a big X-Files fan. I liked it, of course, and I’ve seen all the episodes, but it’s not something I’ve ever re-watched. I keep meaning to, but never get around to it. One day.

Anyway, I don’t remember everything that happened at the end of the last run or really what even happened in the movies, but so far that hasn’t caused any problems.

The first episode was able to get me pumped up and excited for what’s to come. Considering I had to watch it on Fox’s app and deal with commercial breaks that only showed one commercial four to three times in a row, I think that’s saying something. Even after the slow torture of the Empire season premier trailer playing over and over to the point my daughter quoted it, I was eager to watch the next episode.

There was a lot of set up and I seriously hope they don’t resolve it all by the end of this six episode run. It would be too much to pack into such a limited number of episodes and it wouldn’t be what people love about the X-Files. I’m hoping it does well and leads to more seasons. We’ll see what happens.

Lucifer (2016-?)

Network:

Fox

Starring:

Tom Ellis

Lauren German

Lesley-Ann Brandt

Plot:

Satan takes up residence in Los Angeles.

Review:

It’s an immortal helping the police solve crimes. I feel like I just watched this, only it was called Forever and the main character wasn’t evil. It’s interesting and the pilot wasn’t horrible, but I’m not sure if I’ll keep this in my rotation.

Characters were fine and the Lucifer aspect was interesting, but I don’t know if that will be enough to keep me. I’m going to at least watch a couple more episodes.

Minority Report (2015-?)

Minority Report

Minority Report (2015-?)

Network:

Fox

Starring:

Stark Sands

Meagon Good

Nick Zano

Plot:

10 years after the end of Precrime in Washington DC one of the three PreCogs attempts to lead on a normal life while still suffering from visions of the future. Will they be able to hold it together or mentally breakdown and give up?

Review:

It doesn’t make sense for someone with uncontrollable precognitive abilities to live in a large city where violent crime occurs frequently. Big cities are nice, but they aren’t worth what he goes through. He gave a kind of explanation, but you don’t have to live in isolation, there is a middle ground.

The tech was cool looking with moments of me rolling my eyes. I don’t know how they can keep that budget up past the first episode, though.

Honestly the show just makes me bitter that it isn’t Almost Human. It has some potential, but I’m close to my cap on cop shows so I’m not sure if I’ll continue watching past the next couple episodes.

The Last Man on Earth

The Last Man on Earth (2015-?)

Network:

Fox

Starring:

Will Forte

Kristen Schaal

Plot:

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is a new single-camera comedy about the life and adventures of the last man on earth. PHIL MILLER (Forte) was once just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job at the bank – now he’s humanity’s last hope. Will he ever find another person alive on the planet? Would hoping that she is a female be asking too much?

Review:

Really enjoyed this pilot, and the second episode as well. Average guy discovers he’s the last man on earth and naturally becomes super horny. I was a bit concerned when they introduced a woman, only because at first she was perfect, but it was a bait and switch. Kristen Schaal’s character was great! Crazy and annoying and completely oblivious. The real test is going to be if Will Forte’s character can avoid killing her.

I can see many entertaining episodes ahead and I’m looking forward to adding it to my rotation.

Backstrom (2015-?)

Backstrom

Backstrom (2015-?)

Network:

Fox

Starring:

Page Kennedy

Beatrice Rosen

Rainn Wilson

Genevieve Angelson

Dennis Haysbert

Plot:

Backstrom, the renowned misanthropic police detective, takes on new and daunting cases.

Review:

I like Rainn Wilson from watching him on The Office so I tried this out. Pretty disappointed. There was nothing that really stood out. It’s a lot of familiar tropes and while I like how gruff and insensitive Wilson is he didn’t have any positive qualities. I kind of like a good quality or two. He did have a kid living with him that could either be his son, or more than likely his father’s bastard child, but I didn’t get the feeling he did it out of any kind of goodness,

The supporting cast didn’t give me a reason to watch either.

With all the other good shows out there this one just doesn’t make the cut.
