Welcome To the Jungle (2013)

Welcome-to-The-Jungle-Comedy-Movie-2013-6

Director:

Rob Meltzer

Starring:

Jean-Claude Van Damme

Rob Huebel

Adam Brody

Plot:

A company retreat on a tropical island goes terribly awry.

Review:

This movie had it’s good moments but there was too much romance going on. Based on the trailer alone I didn’t realize there was going to be that much but that’s a movie trailer for you.

There were a few hilarious parts, some boobs, and cannibalism. But that’s it.

*shrug*

I guess it takes more to entertain me than it used to. Maybe if there were more boobs?

Jean-Claude Van Damme was good but not in the entire movie. Rob Huebel was hilarious. Adam Brody was predictable.

Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

Fast-and-furious-6-movie

Director:

Justin Lin

Starring:

Vin Diesel

Paul Walker

Dwayne Johnson

Plot:

Hobbs has Dom and Brian reassemble their crew in order to take down a mastermind who commands an organization of mercenary drivers across 12 countries. Payment? Full pardons for them all.

Review:

So I’ve watched, and enjoyed, the Expendables movies, good acting is not a requirement for me to like a movie. That being said this movie was seriously lacking in the acting department. Also holy shit at that move with Vin Diesel jumping out of the car, that was ridiculous, and not in a good way.

I am not the demographic these movies are trying to reach, maybe that’s why I’ve never really liked them. I watch each of them (except Tokyo Drift), eventually, but I never really like them. At their peaks they’re mildly entertaining.

I like cheesy movies, but these just don’t crank my tractor.

Identity Thief (2013)

Identity-Theft

Director:

Seth Gordon

Starring:

Jason Bateman

Melissa McCarthy

Plot:

Mild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Florida to confront the deceptively harmless-looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy’s identity.

Review:

So many awkward moments. So many. Also snakes. Big snakes.

Was I supposed to feel sorry for her? I feel like they wanted me to feel sorry for her but I just couldn’t. She fucked up her life and put herself in the situation. She was a thief and ruined people’s lives. He knew better and it pissed me off that he let her draw him into her world.

The end redeemed it up to a two instead of a one.

Much Ado About Nothing (2012)

much ado about nothing

Director:

Joss Whedon

Starring:

Amy Acker

Alexis Denisof

Nathan Fillion

Clark Gregg

Reed Diamond

Plot:

A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words.

Review:

I have to be in a certain type of mood to watch this kind of movie and receive it well. Not only was it black and white but it was full on Shakespeare. I actually like black and white movies but understanding Shakespeare does not come naturally. That being said Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite play of his, that I’ve read.

Bonus for Joss Whedon and his entourage.

3.5

Wreck It Ralph (2012)

Director:

Rich Moore

Starring:

John C. Reilly

Jack McBrayer

Jane Lynch

Sarah Silverman

Plot:

A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

Review:

I probably would have enjoyed this movie more if I hadn’t watched Frozen so recently. It was a good movie don’t get me wrong but Frozen was awesome and most movies will pale in comparison if viewed so soon after.

Wreck It had its moments and it was a good movie. I thought the premise was original and hope they explore it more in the future. Honestly I liked it but I can’t think of anything that stood out for me.
