3 Days to Kill (2014)

Director:

McG

Starring:

Kevin Costner

Hailee Steinfield

Connie Nielsen

Plot:

A dying CIA agent trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment.

Review:

I hate scarves on men. It makes them look like douche bags. That’s just my personal opinion, though.

Not a very good spy. He talks too much about his daughter, it’s like he’s asking for her to get kidnapped. Dude have you not seen Taken?

The movie tries to be funny with Ethan, Kevin Costner, trying to spend more time with his daughter while also trying to find some dude and kill him. It just ends up being said and pathetic. It’s an action movie that’s trying to be funny, but it’s too serious to be able to pull it off.

The “albino” wasn’t scary, and he was supposed to be. The women in the film were the only good part. He doesn’t kill the bad guy with the dirty bomb because he told his wife he’d quit. Seriously?

Despicable Me (2010)

Director:

Pierre Coffin

Chris Renaud

Starring:

Steve Carell

Jason Segal

Russell Brand

Plot:

When a criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds their love is profoundly changing him for the better.

Review:

I’m not sure why but I didn’t like this one as much as the second. I should have. Part of why I liked the second one was how adorable Gru was with the kids and there was certainly this, but it just didn’t get me like it does in the sequel.

My daughter liked this one better. Well, she paid attention more with this one. She’s still little though so movies aren’t really her thing.

I wonder why they picked those names for the girls? Very old lady names, I wonder if that was on purpose?

Still really cute movie and evidently I can look forward to more in the future.

Snowpiercer (2013)

Jamie Bell

Tilda Swinton

John Hurt

Plot:

Set in a future where a failed climate-change experiment kills all life on the planet except for a lucky few who boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system emerges.

Review:

There is pretty much nothing in theaters right now that I want to pay the steep price of a ticket for. However I recently found myself with a babysitter and had to find something. Luckily a theater in my area had this playing.

***Spoilers***

I’m going to be blunt and start off with I didn’t like the ending. It reminded me of The Matrix Revolutions in that everyone I cared about died. I thought a couple scenes dragged a little, and by a little I mean a minute max. The first action scene had an overabundance of shaky cam and the coolest good guy went out like a bitch.

That being said, the movie was incredibly creative and kept me on my toes. Just when I thought it was safe to head to the bathroom a pregnant school teacher pulls out a machine gun and starts firing at people.

I’d love to see more from this world. If it was a book I would be demanding a sequel. Since it’s a movie I’m not sure.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Director:

Bryan Singer

Starring:

Patrick Stewart

Hugh Jackman

Ian McKellen

James McAvoy

Plot:

The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Review:

I knew nothing about the Days of Future Past story line from the comics or the TV show so I went in with no expectations. My husband use to watch the TV show so was really hoping for more Bishop. Oh well.

There were a couple new X-Men in the future, and in the case of Bishop there was no explanation of his powers. Quicksilver was probably the best part of the movie. Loved the scene with him in the kitchen, the music reminded me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The movie ended up being a reset switch. Everything that has happened in the movies up until now we don’t even know if it happened. Everyone that died is back, the world is all hunky dory.

I call bullshit. There is no way humans would be ok with mutants after one tries to kill the president, brings a whole stadium to the white house, and is only stopped when another mutant stops him. They don’t even get to imprison the mutant that tried to kill the president because another powerful mutant lets him go.

Even with the unlikely ending I liked the movie. Didn’t love it, don’t need to own it, but I liked it.
