Legion (2017-?)

Network:

FX

Starring:

Dan Stevens

Jean Smart

Mackenzie Gray

Plot:

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human.

Review:

So far three episodes of Legion have aired and I’ve watched each of them. If I wasn’t trying to get as much sleep as possible I’d stay up and watch them live, as is I’m watching them at two o’clock in the morning while feeding my son.

The show is trippy, but not so much that there is no story. Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what’s going on or what’s real but it’s told in such a visually captivating way that it doesn’t bother me at all.

David’s story is being teased out slowly but enough is revealed in each episode to keep me satisfied and it’s just so weird that I can’t help but want to know what happens next.

I haven’t read anything about Legion from the comics and that hasn’t hampered my enjoyment of the show at all.

Lethal Weapon (2016-?)

Network:

Fox

Starring:

Clayne Crawford

Damon Wayans

Jordana Brewster

Plot:

Based on the hit movie franchise, Lethal Weapon tells the story of classic cop duo Riggs and Murtaugh, as they work a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles. Riggs’ penchant for diving into the line of fire clashes with Murtaugh’s by-the-book technique. It’s clear from the moment they meet, that this partnership is doomed. But it might just work. If Riggs doesn’t get them killed first…

Review:

I like the Lethal Weapon movies, but they aren’t sacred in my mind so I think that helped me enjoy this show. The basic story seemed to follow the movies, the characters seemed spot on, and the action was what you would expect on a TV version. I liked it. It wasn’t amazing, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was comforting and fun to watch. I could easily see myself watching this every week and I’m excited to see how the show develops.

Designated Survivor (2016-?)

Designated Survivor (2016-?)

Network:

ABC

Starring:

Kiefer Sutherland

Natascha McElhone

Adan Canto

Plot:

A low-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession.

Review:

How can you not want to watch something with that tagline? Especially with the current political climate in our country.

I’ve never watched an episode of 24 so I went into this show with very little exposure to Sutherland and in all honesty was thinking more about Jack Ryan in the book Executive Orders. If they can keep up the good guy image of Sutherland’s character I think I could really enjoy this show. Seeing him battle and win in Washington would be amazing, if unrealistic, after all I do love Mr. Smith goes to Washington.

I’m going to give the show a few more episodes before I fully commit, there’s a lot of side stuff going on and there was a lot to allude to in the pilot, so I’m still not too sure about the show. If it can keep up the idea of someone who is good and wants what’s best for the country and not make him become a corruptible asshole I think I could really enjoy the show. As long as he gets enough wins. I like the idea of hope in politics.

Wynonna Earp (2016-?)

Network:

SyFy

Starring:

Katherine Barrell

Melanie Scrofano

Tim Rozon

Shamier Anderson

Plot:

Based on the IDW Comic, Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she’s the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.

Review:

It’s hard to miss the similarities between Supernatural and this show, but I love Supernatural so I’m alright with that. Wynonna is messed up, but can kick ass, and I want her jacket and boots. Her sister seems like the brainy one, I wish you could merge the two, but whatever. The fight scenes looked bad, but what can you expect.

Overall, I like the concept a lot, I hope they put a lot of work into the history of things. I desperately want to have a SyFy show in my routine, I miss Eureka and Warehouse 13, so this has been added.

Shannara Chronicles (2016-?)

Network:

MTV

Starring:

Austin Butler

Poppy Drayton

Ivana Baquero

Manu Bennett

Plot:

Series of adventures, war, and evil that occur throughout the history of the Four Lands.

Review:

I don’t watch MTV so I managed to see no marketing for this. It wasn’t until I was reading a thread about upcoming TV shows that I even found out about it. On a whim I set my DVR to record and apart from the fact that it recorded a horrible SD quality version I was really impressed.

Most of the reviews I’ve read have been pretty negative, so naturally that meant I liked the show. I hate when that happens, it’s Tomorrowland all over again. Oh well, the fan reception (what I’ve read at least) has been pretty positive.

I haven’t read the source material, in fact I’m not sure if I’ve read anything by Terry Brooks, but I don’t think that made the show and less enjoyable. Which is not always the case, so that was nice.

I loved the fact that there are two kick ass female leads and of course Manu Bennett was awesome. There’s a lot going on in the pilot and at times it was difficult to watch because my cable was messing up, but I’m really excited to see what happens next.

That ending, man, I’m already looking to see if I can watch the next episodes on MTVs app.
