Girl Meets World (2014-)

Network:

Disney

Starring:

Rowan Blanchard

Ben Savage

Sabrina Carpenter

Danielle Fishel

Plot:

A decade after “Boy Meets World,” Cory and Topanga Matthews are married and have two children. Their daughter, Riley, faces life lessons through her family, friends, and school, as her parents did when they were younger.

Review:

So I get that this show is not for me, but I was a fan of the original and tuned in.

I haven’t seen 22 Jump Street but I’ve heard that there are an over abundance of nods to the fact that it’s a sequel. This show suffers from the same thing. The entire first episode there were comments about how Riley, Rowan Blanchard, was going to make this her world. Corey, Ben Savage, even made some comment about Riley going out and meeting the world. By the end of the show it was like please don’t…damnit you did it again.

It also had the definite feel of a Disney show. The original, from what I remember, was a sitcom. This one has that feel that all Disney shows seem to have, a bit too over the top. All the characters are a little too over exaggerated.

For the most part I liked the Riley character but the character of Farkle, Corey Fogelmanis, was incredibly obnoxious.

Ultimately I think when it gets past the fact that it’s a “sequel” and finds its own footing it will be better.

Grudge Match (2013)

Director:

Peter Segal

Starring:

Sylvester Stallone

Robert De Niro

Kim Basinger

Kevin Hart

Plot:

A pair of aging boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout — 30 years after their last match.

Review:

This movies was… honestly right after I finished watching it I started to forget it. I remember the story and who was in it but the movie was just sort of eh. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. It was just there.

I thought Kevin Hart’s part would be bigger based on the trailers. I hadn’t even realized Kim Basinger was in it until she showed up.

I watched this shortly after watching Rocky, so I got the Rocky references.

It was a solid 3 star movie.

Mystery Girls Episode Review

Mystery Girls Episode Review

Network:

ABC Family

Starring:

Jennie Garth

Tori Spelling

Miguel Pinzon

Plot:

The comedy series follows two former detective TV show starlets brought back together by a real-life mystery.

Review:

So I have an unexplainable fascination with Tory Spelling. I’ve watched her reality TV shows, I’ve read her books, I pick up any magazine that has her featured, and I can’t explain why. I never watched Beverly Hills 90210 and I’ve never really liked any movie I’ve seen her in. Still when I read about this I immediately set my calendar up to remind me to record.

First off I knew the premise of the show going in but I must have somehow missed where they explained it in the first episode. The opening scene was so ridiculous and over the top I thought it had to be a flash back to their show. It wasn’t.

Throughout the episode you could piece together that they were once on a TV show together and solved mysteries but what they were doing now wasn’t really explained. They had an office together and I guess they were detective but why were they doing it now?

I thought the first episode was going to be an origin story I guess. Reading more into it the episode that aired first was actually the third episode. I’d really like to know why they did that because if you hadn’t read anything about the show you would have no idea what was going on.

I’ll tune in for another couple of episodes but I don’t see myself sticking around for more than that.

Moonlight in the Morning

Moonlight in the Morning By: Jude Deveraux

Plot:

Sparks are flying between Jecca Layton and Dr. Tristan Aldredge. At the urging of her dear friend Kim, Jecca put the ruthless New York City art world on hold to spend the summer pursuing her passion for painting while enjoying Edilean’s tightly knit artistic community. For years, Kim’s cousin Tris — the town’s handsome and dedicated doctor — felt a deep connection to Kim’s college “sister” Jecca, though they had met only once before. Now, Jecca is swept off her feet by this strong, sensitive man in a summer of sensual delights. But when long shadows announce Jecca’s return to “real life” and the big city, the lovers must decide: Can they survive the distance? And who will sacrifice the life they’ve created for themselves to be together?

Review:

I think Jude Deveraux might be a pantser when it comes to writing. Every now and then she’ll write something and then a page later write something that has to explain what she’d previously written away. Personally I would have edited it out, but then it might not have worked without it, not sure.

Even with that I really liked this book. So happy that I’ve got her back in my life. Already looking forward to reading the next book, though hopefully I don’t end up staying up until four am reading it.

Her men tend to be a bit unrealistic but I don’t read romance for realism. I did want to scream the word compromise at her couple, that happens a lot for me though.

Rocky (1976)

rocky

Director:

John G. Avildsen

Starring:

Sylvester Stallone

Talia Shire

Burt Young

Plot:

Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer gets a supremely rare chance to fight the heavy-weight champion, Apollo Creed, in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect.

Review:

Rocky is one of those movies that you don’t really need to watch and yet you already know everything about it. It’s become part of our culture.

I didn’t really want to watch it but my husband insisted that since he bought the box set I had to watch them all.

It was fun to see how young Stallone was and just how much better his accent has gotten. I liked that Adrian was not some gorgeous knock out and was just your girl next door. I also liked the ending, even though I knew it was coming.

It did drag in a few places and like I mentioned his accent was at times hard to understand, but overall it was a decent movie.
