Central Intelligence (2016)

Central Intelligence (2016)

Director:

Rawson Marshall Thurber

Starring:

Dwayne Johnson

Kevin Hart

Danielle Nicolet

Plot:

After he reconnects with an awkward pal from high school through Facebook, a mild-mannered accountant is lured into the world of international espionage.

Review:

I was looking for just a dumb comedy and I happen to like Dwayne Johnson so figured why not. I was happy that there weren’t any short jokes for Kevin Hart, instead they just did more physical jokes on that side of things. It was an improvement.

However, in all honestly, I didn’t laugh until the very end of the movie with the end credits bloopers. It was an amusing movie, but nothing really remarkable about it.

Bad Boys II (2003)

Bad Boys II (2003)

Director:

Michael Bay

Starring:

Will Smith

Martin Lawrence

Plot:

Two loose-cannon narcotics cops investigate the flow of Ecstasy into Florida from a Cuban drug cartel.

Review:

I didn’t plan to watch this movie, but flipping through streaming services it appeared and I couldn’t not watch it. This is really Will Smith at his peak, him and Lawrence were great together. I didn’t plan on watching the full thing, but each time I started to turn it off something funny would keep me watching. I love the marriage of comedy and action. My husband says that this is the best Michael Bay movie and I think I agree with him.

Lockout (2012)

Director:

James Mather

Starring:

Guy Pearce

Maggie Grace

Peter Stormare

Plot:

A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Review:

I like the idea of this movie more than I like the actual execution. There was a lot of promise, but I feel like they blew their budget on bad CG at the beginning and then the good parts were rushed.

Snow, Guy Pearce, was a total asshole and it was fun to watch. Maggie Grace’s character was underdeveloped, there were hints of stuff but it was glossed over and she was kind of boring but with potential.

I liked the idea of the prison in space. I wished it hadn’t ended with a “romance” between the two characters. I wish there was more to this world and would have enjoyed more character stuff.

Demolition Man (1993)

Director:

Marco Brambilla

Starring:

Sylvester Stallone

Wesley Snipes

Sandra Bullock

Plot:

A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society.

Review:

This is one of my go to movies, something that I’ve watched many times, and I love it. I say this a lot, but they don’t make movies like this anymore. It’s a cheesy action movie but it’s actually thought out. The world is built, there’s all kinds of little details fleshing it out, and the characters are fun. It flows well, it’s violent, and funny. Sure the tech doesn’t make sense but it’s not horrible CG either.

If you haven’t seen Demolition Man I highly recommend.

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995)

Director:

Geoff Murphy

Starring:

Steven Seagal

Eric Bogosian

Everett McGill

Katherine Heigl

Plot:

Casey Ryback hops on a Colorado to LA train to start a vacation with his niece. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite.

Review:

This movie too starts out with boobs. Pixilated boobs, but boobs none the less. It’s actually kind of disgusting how it’s done. Apparently a dancer jumping out of a cake topless is fine to me, but when they use a satellite to peep on a sun bather I take offense. Several men are weak pigs in this movie.

Anyway, the bad guy, Eric Bogosian, plays a great crazy bad guy.

Someone should not have told Seagal he could act because he can’t and anytime he tries it’s bad.

Graphics are bad, which is understandable considering the year the movie was made, but there are so many of them it’s ridiculous.

Competent bad guys are great, especially when the good guys are as well.

My husband freakin loved this movie, I did not.
