Demolition Man (1993)

Director:

Marco Brambilla

Starring:

Sylvester Stallone

Wesley Snipes

Sandra Bullock

Plot:

A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society.

Review:

This is one of my go to movies, something that I’ve watched many times, and I love it. I say this a lot, but they don’t make movies like this anymore. It’s a cheesy action movie but it’s actually thought out. The world is built, there’s all kinds of little details fleshing it out, and the characters are fun. It flows well, it’s violent, and funny. Sure the tech doesn’t make sense but it’s not horrible CG either.

If you haven’t seen Demolition Man I highly recommend.

Keeping Up With the Joneses (2016)

Director:

Greg Mottola

Starring:

Zach Galiflanakis

Isla Fisher

Jon Hamm

Gal Gadot

Plot:

A suburban couple becomes embroiled in an international espionage plot when they discover that their seemingly perfect new neighbors are government spies.

Review:

I nearly choked on my drink while watching this movie I laughed so hard. That’s a pretty good endorsement I believe.

Any scene with Zach Galiflanakis or Isla Fisher was hilarious. They played believable suburbanites thrown into a crazy situation. The weakest parts of the movie were when they weren’t there. Jon Hamm can be hilarious, but when he and Gal Gadot were the only thing on the screen it got boring. Didn’t really care for their part of the story but it wasn’t horrible, just boring.

Fun, entertaining movie.

Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)

Director:

James Bobin

Starring:

Mia Wasikowska

Johnny Depp

Helena Bonham Carter

Plot:

Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to help the Mad Hatter.

Review:

If you liked the first movie, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t like this one. Apparently, though, most people didn’t like this movie.

The story wasn’t as strong, but the characters were there and I liked seeing what Alice was getting into. It wasn’t overly realistic for a woman to be captain of a ship at her time, but nothing in the movie is overly realistic.

The score was great and one of the reasons I like these two movies.

Nothing really remarkable or bad about the movie.

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995)

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995)

Director:

Geoff Murphy

Starring:

Steven Seagal

Eric Bogosian

Everett McGill

Katherine Heigl

Plot:

Casey Ryback hops on a Colorado to LA train to start a vacation with his niece. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite.

Review:

This movie too starts out with boobs. Pixilated boobs, but boobs none the less. It’s actually kind of disgusting how it’s done. Apparently a dancer jumping out of a cake topless is fine to me, but when they use a satellite to peep on a sun bather I take offense. Several men are weak pigs in this movie.

Anyway, the bad guy, Eric Bogosian, plays a great crazy bad guy.

Someone should not have told Seagal he could act because he can’t and anytime he tries it’s bad.

Graphics are bad, which is understandable considering the year the movie was made, but there are so many of them it’s ridiculous.

Competent bad guys are great, especially when the good guys are as well.

My husband freakin loved this movie, I did not.

Arq (2016)

Director:

Tony Elliot

Starring:

Robbie Amell

Rachael Taylor

Shaun Benson

Plot:

Trapped in a lab and stuck in a time loop, a disoriented couple fends off masked raiders while harboring a new energy source that could save humanity.

Review:

You’re pretty much thrown into the middle of a world you know nothing about following people you know nothing about. If you eventually learned more than these people are supposedly bad and these guys maybe not, the movie might have been more compelling. Instead I didn’t really care about anything or anyone.

I love repeat episodes and movies, but this was lacking and not something I would recommend.
