Network:

CBS

Starring:

Jimmy Dunn

Jack McGee

Joey McIntyre

Plot:

Comedy about a sports-crazed Irish-Catholic family that shares a three decker house in Boston and the one member that dares to move out on his own.

Review:

It was funny and had a very loving family that, while insensitive, obviously loved each other. It didn’t seem like anything special but it was funny enough to keep me watching at least a few more episodes.

Network:

NBC

Starring:

Matt Ryan

Charles Halford

Harold Perrineau

Plot:

A man struggling with his faith is haunted by the sins of his past but is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.

Review:

I feel like I should really like this show but the pilot didn’t really grab me. I’m going to watch at least a couple more episodes before I make a final decision, but I’m concerned that it won’t make the cut. I really wanted to like this show and I can’t even pick out exactly why I didn’t like the pilot. Maybe I have Keanu Reeves stuck in my mind? I didn’t hate the casting though. I’m just not sure.

Marry Me (2014-?)

Network:

NBC

Starring:

Casey Wilson

Ken Marino

Sarah Wright

Plot:

After a string of botched marriage proposals, longtime couple Annie and Jake decide to put getting engaged on hold until they can get it together.

Review:

So I really liked Happy Endings and was sad when it was canceled. However this show brings back one of my favorite actresses in basically the same role. Casey Wilson and Ken Marino are hilarious and I’m definitely looking forward to more.

Title does kind of limit them, though, and I hope it doesn’t take them seasons to get married, especially since they’ve been dating for six years.

Jane the Virgin (2014-?)

Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin (2014-?)

Network:

CW

Starring:

Anthony Mendez

Camille Collard

Andrea Navedo

Gina Rodriguez

Plot:

A young, devout woman discovers that she was accidentally artificially inseminated.

Review:

Wow was not expecting to like this show. The premise is so out there, very much like the telenovela that is depicted in the show. The amount that happens in the first episode is more than some series do in an entire season. I’m really curious to see if they’re going to be able to keep that pace up. Also I think I might want to try watching a Telenovela, maybe I will learn Spanish that way.

Cristela (2014-?)

Cristela

Cristela (2014-?)

Network:

ABC

Starring:

Cristela Alonzo

Maria Canals-Barrera

Terri Hoyos

Gabriel Iglesias

Plot:

In her sixth year of law school, Cristela is finally on the brink of landing her first big (unpaid) internship at a prestigious law firm. The only problem is that her pursuit of success is more ambitious than her traditional Mexican-American family thinks is appropriate. She’s stuck straddling the old culture she’s trying to modernize at home with her working-class family and the modern world she’s trying to embrace in her professional career. Breakout comedian Cristela Alonzo stars in this hilarious comedy about laughing your way down the path to the new American dream.

Review:

I wasn’t expecting much from this show and basically only decided to watch it because I felt like I needed to add more to my comedy line-up. I am so glad I did. I laughed out loud so many times while watching this episode and I already love Cristela. She’s hilarious, smart, witty, and obviously loves her family. She’s constantly pushing to break out of the boxes people are putting her into and encouraging her family to do the same. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and I hope that it gets all the love it deserves.
