Limitless (2015-?)

Network:

CBS

Starring:

Jake McDorman

Jennifer Carpenter

Hill Harper

Plot:

A man gains the ability to use the full extent of his brain’s capabilities. A television adaptation of the 2011 film, ‘Limitless’.

Review:

I haven’t seen the movie this is a spinoff of, so the appearance of Bradley Coopers character didn’t mean more than, “Oh that’s nice it’s Bradley Cooper.” From what I’ve read he might make a few more appearances, we’ll see.

Anyway, this is the first pilot I’ve seen this season that I actually liked. I’m hoping that they do more than just make this some kind of procedural show, though they probably won’t, but I think there’s some potential.

I like the casting. I enjoyed McDorman in last season’s failed Manhattan Love Story, so it’s nice to see him getting work. He’s funny but not the point where this is a comedy, just enough to lighten it up in places. I saw the first two seasons of Dexter back in the day so I recognize Carpenter but she isn’t locked in my brain as someone who drops the f-bomb all the time. I even like Harper from his CSI New York days.

It will interesting to see what happens to this show. If it becomes just another crime solving drama or if it becomes something more.

The Muppets (2015-?)

Network:

ABC

Starring:

Steve Whitmire

Bill Barretta

Dave Goelz

Eric Jacobson

Plot:

Jim Henson’s loveable puppets return to the small screen in this mockumentary-style series that follows their personal and professional lives.

Review:

I’ve only seen a couple episodes of the original series and honestly don’t remember much about them, so my thoughts on the episode are based purely on the pilot and how it compares to the most recent movies.

There’s a lot more adult material and themes in the TV series. Not to the point where you wouldn’t want kids to watch, but they aren’t going to catch on to everything. Fozzy is dating a human which causes problems between him and her family. Kermit and Miss Piggy have broken up and he’s dating a new pig. I never understood why Kermit was with Miss Piggy but whatever floats his boat. He’s apparently into pigs since his new woman is one too. I’m not sure how I feel about the new girl. We’ll see.

The show wasn’t awesome and it wasn’t bad. I’m really noticing a theme with these new shows. Nothing has really blown me away or made me excited to see more. It’s kind of sad.

Grace & Frankie (2015-?)

Network:

Netflix

Starring:

Jane Fonda

Lily Tomlin

Martin Sheen

Sam Waterston

Plot:

A pair of rivals find out their husbands want to run off with each other.

Review:

There is something so refreshing about this show. It’s not too serious but it’s not too funny, it’s perfect. I felt so bad for Lily Tomlin’s character, she loved her husband, they had a good life, and then he cheats on her for twenty years.

I watched past the pilot and I liked the fact that the guys didn’t get completely off for cheating even though it was with other men.

Really liked the show and I’ve already binge watched most of it.

Daredevil (2015-?)

Daredevil

Daredevil (2015-?)

Network:

Netflix

Starring:

Charlie Cox

Deborah Ann Woll

Elden Henson

Plot:

A blind lawyer with his other senses superhumanly enhanced fights crime as a costumed superhero.

Review:

Best pilot since Marvel’s Agent Carter. So far I’ve consumed four episodes and I love this show so much. A lot of the fight scenes have been better shot than most action movies being released lately. The story is compelling and I like how they’ve worked in mentions to the Avengers. Not the characters but the destruction they did to the city. The characters are real, but not so real that you can’t see them donning black and kicking butt.

I purposefully didn’t read much about this show going in because I wanted to see it without any expectations, and these first four episodes have been incredible. I’m so looking forward to the rest of this season and all the Marvel+Netflix series to come.

Side note: Kind of sad to read that AKA Jessica Jones might not be released this year, it’s times like this when I’m reminded that we’re in a whole new world of TV and have no idea what “networks” are going to do

iZombie (2015-?)

Pilot

iZombie (2015-?)

Network:

CW

Starring:

Rose McIver

Malcolm Goodwin

Rahul Kohli

Plot:

A medical student finds that being a zombie has its perks, which she uses to assist the police.

Review:

Not the biggest fan of zombies but I feel that I need to know my enemy so I watch them sometimes.

iZombie definitely wasn’t going for super 28 days later scary zombies, though I think there will be something like that in the future. They seemed to be going more towards the zombies are people too, direction. Not sure how I feel about that, though, they weren’t trying to hide that in the trailers so I wasn’t blindsided.

I’m not sure if I’m going to continue watching. I had no problem with the characters or the story, but nothing really grabbed me and gave me that feeling that I had to watch to find out what happens next. It seemed like a cute show, but that’s about it.
