Agent Carter

Marvel’s Agent Carter (2015-?)

Network:

ABC

Starring:

Hayley Atwell

Shea Whigham

Lyndsy Fonseca

Plot:

Peggy Carter becomes a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent during WW2 after her boyfriend, Steve Rogers (Captain America) is feared dead in a plane crash.

Review:

I watched this live but I waited to post my review because I was so excited after seeing it I would have barely been able to write more than, it was awesome! Even now, after I’ve given it time to sit, I still want to just say, it was awesome! I’ll try for more, though.

Agent Peggy Carter, Hayley Atwell, is such a great female role model. She’s gone from being one of the front runners during WWII to being treated like a glorified secretary. None of the men she fought with during the war are working with her, so no one seems to know her true potential. It’s the forties so they treat her like she should be serving coffee and filing the paperwork they don’t want to. She takes it all in stride, though, and uses the fact that they underestimate her to her advantage. She’s one step ahead of them the entire time and able to work to her own ends. I can see this coming back to bite her in the ass later.

Agent Carter is still trying to get over the loss of Captain America but she doesn’t moon over him like the men she works with seem to think. There are several flash backs to the Captain America movie, which I kind of thought they went a little over board with, but since you can’t assume everyone has seen the movie, it was understandable. I was also hoping that some of the men she’d fought with would be in the show, but they did not make an appearance in the first two episodes.

I liked the radio story they would go to every now and then. It was Captain America saving a nurse that was forever being captured by Nazis. It showed a great contrast between how women were perceived at the time and how Agent Carter acted.

There were questions asked, questions answered, and questions left to be figured out. Tons of ass was kicked by Agent Carter and male chauvinist pigs were out witted. I am still incredibly excited about this show, but hopefully that gives you some information other than, it was awesome!

Plot:

Light years from Earth, 26 years after being abducted, Peter Quill finds himself the prime target of a manhunt after discovering an orb wanted by Ronan the Accuser.

Review:

I am so glad I got to see this movie in theaters. It is AMAZING! Holy cow, I’m just going to come out and say it, this is the best Marvel movie. I know. Crazy! Who would have thought that a movie that has almost nothing to do with the main Marvel story would be the best, but it is.

Chris Pratt played the leader of the bunch, Starlord, but only kind of. Rocket, Bradley Cooper, was the brains and Bautista and Saldana were the muscle. Starlord was the glue that kept them together and it worked.

My husband, having seen Bautista perform in the WWE, wasn’t sure about his casting, but because of the alien race they made him it was perfect. In fact he provided some of the funniest moments in the movie. When he’s laughing like crazy while everyone else is afraid for their lives it’s hilarious.

I really liked how they played the villains. I liked the fact that after the hulking mass of Dax, Bautista, couldn’t defeat Ronan, Lee Pace, they didn’t even try to have Starlord take him on physically. I liked the fact that Nebula, Karen Gillan, didn’t die and you know she’s coming back. Ronan came off as a complete fanatic and the fact that he wasn’t easily killed was perfect.

The only part of this movie I didn’t like was the end scene after the credits. It didn’t give us anything about what’s to come. Unless they’ll be doing a Howard the Duck movie and I doubt that’s happening any time soon.

I can’t wait for this movie to come out on Blu-ray because it is a day one purchase.

Starring:

Chris Evans

Samuel L. Jackson

Scarlett Johannsson

Plot:

Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.

Review:

Seriously I’m starting to feel like Stan from South Park in the episode where he thinks everything is shit.

To be clear, I did not think everything in this movie was shit. I was however incredibly disappointed in how this movie was shot. It didn’t help that the projector in the theater was out of focus, just enough for you to doubt whether or not it was, but anyway. My problem was the fact that it looked like a dad with a camcorder recorded this movie.

Shaky Cam!!!!!! Why must you show up and ruin movies?????

The camera was even moving around during non action scenes. What the hell was with that?

The story was pretty good. Though I didn’t get why Black Widow was trying to hook him up the entire movie, yet there was some chemistry going on between them. Black Widow was also more emotional in this movie than in the past. So instead of a Borg, maybe a half Vulcan.

If I was rating just on story it was a solid 4 stars, but I’m not.

Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Starring:

Chris Hemsworth

Natalie Portman

Tom Hiddleston

Anthony Hopkins

Plot:

When Jane Foster is possessed by a great power, Thor must protect her from a new threat of old times: the Dark Elves.

Review:

I, of course, loved Thor the original movie. I don’t know a single woman that didn’t love that movie. Yes, I liked it for more than just the abs, but they were there and I couldn’t ignore them, and they were well worth all the talk they received.

Thor: The Dark World was the first movie after the birth of my daughter that I didn’t get to see in theaters so I had it pre-ordered and had it the day it came out on blu ray.

I’ve just watched it once and my inital opinion is that it was good but I’m not sure if I liked it as much as the first. I plan on watching it a few times before I make my final decision, but for now I think it was a solid movie.

There was a slow part in the middle that I thought the movie could have done without and I figured out the ending before it happened. So probably not the best Marvel movie but definitely not the worst.

If, after a few repeat viewings, I change my mind I’ll update my review.
