Director:

Bradley Cooper

Starring:

Bradley Cooper

Lady Gaga

Sam Elliot

Plot:

A musician helps a young singer find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.

Review:

Yeah…this movie wasn’t for me. I liked the music, for the most part, but just could not get invested in the characters and as soon as I figured out what was going to happen to Bradley Cooper’s character I checked out.

Lady Gaga is a normal person, with a normal job, that happens to sing at a small drag club once a week. Bradley Cooper is a country western star with a hearing problem and a serious alcoholic. Drunk and wanting more Cooper shows up at the bar Lady Gaga performs at and decides she’s got talent.

Next thing you know she’s a star, they’re getting married, and he’s getting worse. Dude needed some serious therapy, eventually gets some but recovers just enough to take his own life.

Definitely not a happy ending and I’m not sure what the message here was either. I think I would have liked it better if it had just focused on one of them, instead of both. Just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Daniel Brühl

Plot:

Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) is a chef who destroyed his career with drugs and diva behavior. He cleans up and returns to London, determined to redeem himself by spearheading a top restaurant that can gain three Michelin stars.

Review:

I love watching movies with food porn. They’re fun, though, they do have the negative side effect of making me hungry, but who cares!

Bradley Cooper played a brilliant chef that fucked up his life and is trying to get it back on track. By the end of the movie he was still brilliant, still hot tempered, still not the best decision maker, but he’d made progress.

The only negative I’ve got is I wish there hadn’t been a love interest, I didn’t see why the movie needed it and it would have worked better, I think, as just tension not him actually acting on it.

Oh well, liked the movie, probably won’t watch it again, but it was fun.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Director:

David O. Russell

Starring:

Bradley Cooper

Jennifer Lawrence

Robert De Niro

Plot:

After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

Review:

So this was one of the top movies Netflix had recommended for romance and I haven’t seen it, so I figured why not.

Not a very romantic opening. Bradley Cooper’s character is bipolar and doesn’t want to take his meds. He’s a bit crazy with moments of way too crazy. Tiffany, Jennifer Lawrence, is also messed up. Her cop husband has died and she has fallen back into bad habits. Slutty habits. She really just needs someone to love her for her and not for her wild sexy behavior.

After it’s clearly explained that they’re both fucked up, Tiffany says she’ll only give his ex-wife a letter if he dances with her. Naturally.

When they finally dance I had my fingers in my ears and I was humming because it was just too much tension for me. In the end their crazies meld and everyone was happy.

This was not the type of romance I was looking for, and the beginning was a bit rough for me to get through, but I liked the ending. I guess I’m just not cultured enough to like Oscar winners.

Karen Gillan

Plot:

Light years from Earth, 26 years after being abducted, Peter Quill finds himself the prime target of a manhunt after discovering an orb wanted by Ronan the Accuser.

Review:

I am so glad I got to see this movie in theaters. It is AMAZING! Holy cow, I’m just going to come out and say it, this is the best Marvel movie. I know. Crazy! Who would have thought that a movie that has almost nothing to do with the main Marvel story would be the best, but it is.

Chris Pratt played the leader of the bunch, Starlord, but only kind of. Rocket, Bradley Cooper, was the brains and Bautista and Saldana were the muscle. Starlord was the glue that kept them together and it worked.

My husband, having seen Bautista perform in the WWE, wasn’t sure about his casting, but because of the alien race they made him it was perfect. In fact he provided some of the funniest moments in the movie. When he’s laughing like crazy while everyone else is afraid for their lives it’s hilarious.

I really liked how they played the villains. I liked the fact that after the hulking mass of Dax, Bautista, couldn’t defeat Ronan, Lee Pace, they didn’t even try to have Starlord take him on physically. I liked the fact that Nebula, Karen Gillan, didn’t die and you know she’s coming back. Ronan came off as a complete fanatic and the fact that he wasn’t easily killed was perfect.

The only part of this movie I didn’t like was the end scene after the credits. It didn’t give us anything about what’s to come. Unless they’ll be doing a Howard the Duck movie and I doubt that’s happening any time soon.

I can’t wait for this movie to come out on Blu-ray because it is a day one purchase.
