Sense 8

Recently I watched and loved the second season of Sense 8, almost as soon as I’d finished Netflix announced that it had been canceled. I felt so betrayed. It’s been some time since I heard their decision and I can safely say that I’m still pissed off. I’ve actually gone so far as to cancel Netflix. While, I’m sure I’ll be back, for the first time in about ten years I won’t have Netflix. When I do inevitably re-subscribe I don’t see myself keeping it going indefinitely. I’ll probably just watch what I want then cancel it again.

I thought they were going to be different from networks and at least give me closure on their shows, but Sense 8 season 2 had a massive cliffhanger and now we’ll never know what happened. The Wachowskis told them from the beginning that they planned on five seasons, they knew that it was going to be a large cast and filmed all over the world. None of this was news and yet Netflix decided not to continue.

I understand that they weren’t getting the kind of viewer numbers they expected, but that’s the beauty of the Netflix model, the show is going nowhere. It will always be there for people to discover and love, only now they will find it and be let down. It will be the next Firefly, a vocal fanbase that feels forever slighted. If we could only get a movie to wrap it up that might make things better.

I don’t normally write stuff like this, I write reviews, but it bothered me so much I felt like I had to share something. For now, I’m going to wrap up watching the few things in my Netflix queue that aren’t available anywhere else, and then probably end up buying more seasons of things on Amazon. Because, honestly, fuck you Netflix.

***UPDATE***

Clearly my post has worked, lol, Netflix is going to let them create a two hour movie. I know it’s not going to have everything I want, but hopefully it’s enough. Yeah!

Conspiracy Theory (1997)

Conspiracy Theory (1997)

Director:

Richard Donner

Starring:

Mel Gibson

Julia Roberts

Patrick Stewart

Plot:

A man obsessed with conspiracy theories becomes a target after one of his theories turns out to be true. Unfortunately, in order to save himself, he has to figure out which theory it is.

Review:

This is one of my favorite movies. It has slow parts and the story could be tighter, but I still watch it any chance I get.

Mel Gibson plays a great crazy man and Julia Roberts plays a nice normal lawyer with the Justice Department.

Patrick Stewart gets his nose bitten off too, which is always fun.

This movie would be a lot less interesting set during our internet age. It’s too easy to get your personal conspiracy theories out there and all the effort he goes through is fun to watch.

His apartment is one of my favorite parts cause it’s just so freaky and paranoid. All the little quirks are fun and the fact that Julia just goes with it is fun.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Director:

Justin Lin

Starring:

Chris Pine

Zacchary Quinto

Karl Urban

Simon Pegg

Plot:

The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Review:

Of the three movies I rented from Red Box during a particularly ambitious visit this was my favorite. That’s not saying too much though since I chose some eh movies.

If you want a Sci-Fi action movie than this has got you covered. There are alien planets, fighting in space, fighting with ships, a massive city in space, a roguish captain, basically everything you need for a space opera. It’s like they had a check list of typical Space Opera tropes and checked all the boxes, which is fine and right now there isn’t much of that out there in movie form.

If you’re looking for a Star Trek movie focused on diplomacy and science, basically The Next Generation, then there’s isn’t nearly as much for you. There’s almost a sort of nod to that at the very beginning as though the writers were saying if they did that it would be boring and not worth watching. Whatever. To each their own.

I like the new Star Trek movies as long as I don’t think about the Star Trek series/episodes that I love. If I go into it thinking Sci-Fi Action I enjoy the movies a lot better, it’s only after when I start to think about it that the movies start to bug me and that’s only because they make me feel like I’m never going to get a movie like what I loved.

Christmas Incorporated (2015)

Director:

Jonathan Wright

Starring:

Penny Eizenga

Shenae Grimes-Beech

Steve Lund

Plot:

Man inherited a company that has a toy factory in a small town. The town needs the factory to stay open. He goes to decide to keep or close the factory. Finds the meaning of Christmas along the way.

Review:

Okay the intro seems crazy and unrealistic but I’ve been in her same position looking for jobs and it can be exactly like that. Except for when she finally gets a job, that part was pure Hallmark.

Anyway, the movie goes out of its way to show that she has $89 in her bank account yet somehow she manages to deck out a house in Christmas decorations. Mayor is super creepy and the male lead comes off as a total ass, which he’s supposed to in the beginning but he’s a creepy ass. Lots of unintentional creepy in this movie.

Pacing is off and story feels disjointed. Not much chemistry between the actors, honestly all the actors seem really off in various ways.

This is definitely a Hallmark Christmas movie, but it is not one of their best and unless you’re desperate for background noise I wouldn’t recommend.

Fall 2015 TV Shows

So after reading through Entertainment Weekly’s Fall TV issue and spending the last few weeks reading up on shows, I’ve finally created my schedule. It’s daunting and I have no idea how people in the Entertainment industry keep up.

Fall 2015 currently has twenty-nine shows that I’ll be watching. TWENTY-NINE. I’m starting to think I have a problem. Maybe. Probably not though.

Anyway, since my TV time is going to be dominated with TV and not movies, I’m going to try something new this fall. Instead of posting movie blogs on Tuesdays and Fridays, I’m going to post about TV episodes. I’ll do my customary Pilot season blog posts, but also post about episodes that I liked. We’ll see how it goes.

For now I’m desperately trying to figure out how I’m going to watch a two year old that doesn’t want to nap, write at least 2k words on my book every day, keep the house relatively clean, and spend some time with my husband every now and then.

First world problems.

Here’s my list of shows, let me know what you guys are looking forward to
