Plot:

A fast-talking lawyer transforms his body and takes a vow of silence, not to be broken until he finds out who killed his wife and daughter and has his revenge.

Review:

I watched this movie, then literally completely forgot I had. It’s been an effort to remember enough to write this review.

Antonio Banderas character is a hot shot lawyer that talks his clients problems away. He’s a criminal defense attorney, something that pays well if you’re good and is required, but also comes with the price of knowing that you’re potentially getting bad guys back on the street. As long as the money is coming in he doesn’t care, but when his wife and child are murdered things change.

Karl Urban was jacked in this movie and I kept hoping for more, sadly I did not like his character and felt like he was wasted.

The action was alright, but this was not an action movie despite what the trailer seems to say. Yet another misleading trailer.

The idea is unoriginal, the acting is fine, the payoff is eh. Would not recommend.

Review:

BEST MARVEL MOVIE!

I know, that’s a pretty bold statement, but I stand by it. The music was awesome. The characters were fun. The acting was great. The story, always the weak spot in a Thor movie, was entertaining. Seriously, days later and I still can’t think of a single thing that I didn’t love.

Thor’s hair was cut, they somehow took an already super attractive man and made him that much more attractive. His comedy timing was perfect and it felt like they finally found a good balance for the role.

The Hulk was great, he’s a character that can’t really carry a movie all on his own, but adding him to a Thor movie worked out beautifully.

The new characters and world were fun and exciting and honestly I just freaking loved this entire thing. If I could I would see it again and again in theaters. It was that good.

I loved the colors, I loved the action, I loved the comedy, I loved it all.

I know, I know, this is a sucky review, but just go watch the movie.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Director:

Justin Lin

Starring:

Chris Pine

Zacchary Quinto

Karl Urban

Simon Pegg

Plot:

The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Review:

Of the three movies I rented from Red Box during a particularly ambitious visit this was my favorite. That’s not saying too much though since I chose some eh movies.

If you want a Sci-Fi action movie than this has got you covered. There are alien planets, fighting in space, fighting with ships, a massive city in space, a roguish captain, basically everything you need for a space opera. It’s like they had a check list of typical Space Opera tropes and checked all the boxes, which is fine and right now there isn’t much of that out there in movie form.

If you’re looking for a Star Trek movie focused on diplomacy and science, basically The Next Generation, then there’s isn’t nearly as much for you. There’s almost a sort of nod to that at the very beginning as though the writers were saying if they did that it would be boring and not worth watching. Whatever. To each their own.

I like the new Star Trek movies as long as I don’t think about the Star Trek series/episodes that I love. If I go into it thinking Sci-Fi Action I enjoy the movies a lot better, it’s only after when I start to think about it that the movies start to bug me and that’s only because they make me feel like I’m never going to get a movie like what I loved.

Dredd (2012)

Judge Dredd 2012

Dredd (2012)

Director:

Pete Travis

Starring:

Karl Urban

Olivia Thirlby

Lena Headey

Plot:

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Review:

Recently I came across a thread that asked you to list the greatest action movies of all time. Now I wouldn’t say that the list that came to my mind was the greatest, but they’re all really good and some of my favorite movies.

Judge Dredd was on my list and I realized it’s been way too long since I’ve watched it. What if I don’t like it anymore?

Not possible.

Judge Dredd is one of those movies that I joke I’m going to buy for everyone at Christmas. It’s almost always cheap and there’s really no good reason for someone not to own it. I say I’m joking, but am I? One day…

A quick disclaimer, I have never read a Judge Dredd comic or watched the original movie.

Karl Urban as Dredd is such a badass. The way his face is in a perpetual frown and the fact that he barely speaks. Perfect.

Ma-Ma, Lena Heady, is an evil as fuck villain and you know this immediately because the movie starts with her having three dudes skinned alive and then thrown from near the top of a skyscraper while doped up on drugs that slowed time.

Seriously?

Yup.

Olivia Thirlby, Anderson, provides a nice newbie to ride along with. She’s a mutant that has psychic abilities, she reads people’s minds. By the end of the movie she’s earned her position as a judge, though, I’m not sure if I’d call her a badass. However, when she invaded that dudes mind and messed with him it was pretty cool.

The movie as a whole is great and I wish desperately that it had received a sequel, but it bombed in theaters because… people can’t enjoy a graphically violent sci-fi action movie? I don’t know, but it’s sad. To add insult to injury Urban’s TV show Almost Human was canceled too.

Bitter?

Yeah.

I highly recommend this movie.
