Disney Toybox Figures: Pixar Toybox

DisneyStore.com

Updated on 11/28/2021

What ultimately sold me on buying these figures was seeing the Toy Story versions, specifically Buzz Lightyear. I loved Leia, but she’s just one figure, Buzz and Woody looked perfect. Buzz had the bright green, the buttons looked good, he even had wings!

Currently, all the figures are available on Disney’s website, but I believe the Toy Story ones could start to be harder to find soon. I’ve been in two Disney stores recently and neither of them had Woody, so anyone looking to collect should keep that in mind. Where I can I’ve included links to Amazon, but pay attention to price when buying there.

Thoughts and Speculation

UPDATED 04/23/2019

My thoughts on the new Toy Story figures are much the same as my original thoughts. I do wonder if Jessie’s face has been altered slightly, but I’m not sure since I haven’t seen it in person. I love the addition of Bo Peep, even if I think her figure looks a little weird.

As to speculation about what’s to come, I haven’t seen any new flyers so I just hope that we get more figures. I’m loving this line, they’re well made and within my price range to collect or let my kids play with.

Original

While I love the look of the Toy Story figures, I’m not as into the Incredibles ones. They don’t have the same personality in their faces, all but Edna are very generic looking. Jack-Jack included in each of them makes sense because of his powers, but isn’t very fun either. I do love that Edna gets a figure, though, I wish Frozone had one as well. Apart from Edna, Violet is the best looking one in my opinion.

Woody’s face looks crazy and I could see some fun pictures being made with him. Buzz has a lot of personality in his face as well, determined and slightly deranged. The fact that his accessory is the jetpack feels like a copout and I would have loved a helmet. Jessie is a dip in quality appearance wise. Her clothes look great, but her face is generic and doesn’t convey her fiery personality at all.

The Pixar series has done a much better job including female characters. We’ve got Jessie, Mrs. Incredible, Violet, and Edna. That’s more than the Star Wars and Marvel lines with fewer released. The lack of female characters in the other series is really highlighted when you look at their figure lines.

I’m curious to see what’s going to come out next in the Pixar line. Posable Cars characters doesn’t really work in my mind, and neither do fish. Maybe Bugs Life is going to make a come back. We could also see some Coco figures which would be great with Halloween coming.

Disney Toybox Figures: Star Wars Line

UPDATED 10/21/2022

Princess Leia is what started my obsession with these toys. Her face is perfect, the attitude and competence this little figure exudes is spot on for the character. This is the line I am most excited for and money willing I will be able to collect them all.

Where I can I’ve added Amazon links, but always check the price because it will fluctuate.

Thoughts and Speculation

UPDATE 1/13/2019

We finally have a prequal character with the addition of Darth Maul. I know a lot of people don’t like the prequels (I like them fwiw) but they’re leaving out some really great characters. Qui-Gon Jinn? Queen Amidala? Count Dooku? Mace Windu?

They seem to be bouncing all over the place with the Star Wars characters. We’ve got original trilogy and new, which is nice. They’ve elected to have the younger versions of the characters, except in Han’s case (thank god).

Yoda is the only figure currently announced that has not yet been released but with the popularity of Star Wars I’m sure there are many more in the pipeline. They specified that the Stormtrooper is a First Order one, so that hints at more to come.

I’m really excited by this visual interpretation of the characters. They are cute, without going too far in that direction. They still have attitude. The women have not been sexualized, but they are still very clearly feminine.

I’m looking forward to a Finn, Poe, and Rose figure. I really hope that we get a Holdo figure as well, but that’s probably going to be a stretch. Obi Wan, Queen Amidala, and Qui Gon Gin would be fun too. I wonder if they will end up doing older versions of the characters they’ve done? That would be fun. General Leia. Crotchety Han. So many awesome characters in the franchise. So many directions they could go. Exciting!

Disney Toybox Figures Epic List

My current obsession. I don’t normally post about things that aren’t books, TV, or movies, and I’ve got a few TV Pilot reviews to write and post, but I just love these figures. I originally posted this on my Tumblr but thought I’d share the posts over here too. Enjoy!

With Disney Infinity no longer a thing Disney decided to take the adorable art style and make straight up toys. As someone who always loved the DI figures I’m very happy with this decision. So far I only have one of the figures, but it is well made, with several moveable joints, a great facial expression, and a removable item. Since, I’m choosing to just sit it there and marvel at it’s wonderfulness I do wish they’d included a stand, Princess Leia ends up leaning against my speaker.

The Disney Toybox toys are in four different collections, currently. Though the above picture only shows three. There is Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel, and Disney. They seem to be coming out in waves, and each figure is numbered specifically for their collection.

With a $12.95 price tag they are a bit pricier than a normal child’s toy so it’s obvious that Disney is banking on the collector market with these. They are a quality toy, but even with the Disney brand attached they are still just a toy, so I find it difficult to believe that many parents are buying these for their children.

Here is a list of the released figures for all those, like me, who wish to collect them, I have also included Amazon links at the bottom when I can, just click on the picture of the figure you like. (I will try to keep this list up to date as my obsession continues):

Plot:

Review:

So I did not get to see this in theaters, I look forward to the time when my daughter is old enough to sit through movies cause I would be fine with going to see all the cartoons. Until then Red Box is my friend.

Moana was a beautiful movie. I loved that she was able to save the day without needing to fall in love and without her parents having to die. I thought that was pretty awesome. I also really liked the music, though I don’t know how much of it I’ll be able to sing, we’ll see.

I’m actually kind of hoping that my husband gets this for our daughter for Easter. I might have to drop some hints about what Mommy thinks she might like. Though, honestly it didn’t hold her attention as much as I would have hoped.

Director:

Starring:

Joey Lawrence

Billy Joel

Plot:

A lost and alone kitten joins a gang of dogs engaged in petty larceny in New York.

Review:

I remember seeing this movie in theaters, which is actually kind of crazy since I was only two. Because of that early viewing I had some nostalgia attached to it. I remembered loving the songs and thinking it was a cute, happy movie. When my daughter picked it out to watch, I figured, why not.

Wow, what a shock. The fun happy film that I remembered was not what we watched. I still like the songs, but they are such a smaller part of the movie than I had remembered. When the animation was good it was like 101 Dalmatians and Aristacats in that it was gritty, but I don’t have a problem with that. New York City in the 80s was gritty. However, often times the quality would dip and it would look like something from a TV cartoon, definitely not on par with other Disney animation.

I was saddened and disappointed and almost wish I hadn’t watched it. My daughter liked it, but I’ll probably do my best not to add it to a regular rotation.
